Maxine Waters – Serving California’s 43rd District

Congresswoman Maxine Waters is considered by many to be one of the most powerful women in American politics today. She has gained a reputation as a fearless and outspoken advocate for women, children, people of color and the poor.
Elected in November 2018 to her fifteenth term in the U.S. House of Representatives with more than 70 percent of the vote in the 43rd Congressional District of California, Congresswoman Waters represents a large part of South Los Angeles including the communities of Westchester, Playa Del Rey, and Watts and the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County comprised of Lennox, West Athens, West Carson, Harbor Gateway and El Camino Village. The 43rd District also includes the diverse cities of Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita and Torrance.
Congresswoman Waters made history as the first woman and first African American Chair of the House Financial Services Committee. An integral member of Congressional Democratic Leadership, Congresswoman Waters serves as a member of the Steering & Policy Committee and is the Co-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer’s Disease. She is also a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and member and past chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Patricia Benoit – Senior Manager/Advisor, SCE
Over the course of her career in the utility, retail, entertainment, and energy industries; Patricia has held positions of Senior Manager of Cybersecurity, Ethics & Compliance Senior Advisor, IT Program/Project Manager, Lead Integrated Auditor, and IT Auditor. In her current position at Southern California Edison, Patricia is responsible for Controls Management and Consultations for the high risk areas across the organization. As a natural advocate for women, Patricia serves ISACA Los Angeles Chapter as the SheLeadsTech Board Member, focused on advancing STEM field inclusivity. She also holds ISACA’s CISM and CISA certifications, SANS GSEC and GCCC certifications, and is certified by PMI as a Project Management Professional

Jeff Boleman – Cognitive Technical Architect and IBM Systems Cloud Lead for North America, IBM
Jeff Boleman, M.S.C.S. is a Cognitive Technical Architect and IBM Systems Cloud Lead with IBM. He is an experienced IT thought leader for technical sales, consulting, software development, financial services and academia. He brings his BS and MS in Computer Science education combined with real world experience to applied areas including cloud, automation and large scale architecture needed for ERP, HPC, Big Data and AI/ML/DL. Jeff has written and instructed on operating systems, systems architecture, networking, virtualization and cloud. His most recently published whitepapers (2018 and 2019) examine the skills needed for a cloud enabled workforce and analyze cloud provisioning techniques.

Ed Covert –  Director of Security Assessments and Infrastructure for WarnerMedia
Ed Covert brings over twenty-five years of intelligence, cyber security, and risk management experience. His personal mission is to improve security postures by translating “cyber speak” to mission need and working to ensure cyber security supports the objectives of the business. Currently, he is the Director of Security Assessments and Infrastructure for WarnerMedia. Previously, he was the Global Head of Security Architecture for Deutsche Bank. He holds numerous industry cybersecurity and project management certifications and has an undergraduate in cybersecurity from the University of Maryland University College.
Bill Creasey – Technical Program Manager
Breaking things and protecting users since 2010, Bill Creasey has worked in cybersecurity for some of the biggest technology and security companies in the world including Microsoft, F5 Networks, and Google. With a Masters in Cybersecurity from the University of Washington and over 20 years technology experience Bill provides actionable perspectives on cybersecurity from both the professional and academic point of view.

Abigail Deras – Cybersecurity Consultant, CISOShare
Abigail L. Deras, CISSP, GCFE is a cybersecurity consultant at CISOSHARE, a cybersecurity consulting firm in Orange County. Passionate about transformational change and driving client success, Abigail works with key business stakeholders, executives, and management leaders in multiple industries to establish and deliver impactful solutions that address the strategic and tactical needs of an organization. Abigail has worked in various organizations, including Becton Dickinson and Providence St Joseph Health, where she focused on developing best practices, policies, and processes in risk management, vulnerability management, and incident response.
In the talk, “From Archaeo to Archivexe,” Abigail will reflect on her nearly decade of experience as a woman in cybersecurity, her transition from a non-traditional field to cybersecurity, and useful tips for personal and professional development. Abigail is happy to help mid-career professionals looking to navigate towards new or ongoing careers in cybersecurity.

Kevin Haley – Director, Global Intelligence Network, Symantec
Kevin Haley is a Director in the Security Technology and Response group where he is responsible for ensuring the security content gathered from Symantec’s Global Intelligence Network is actionable for its customers. In his role, Kevin educates customers on security issues and serves as a media expert to explain security content and share how Symantec’s telemetry and solutions protect customers from complex internet threats and other security risks. Kevin was named one of the “100 People You Should Know 2018” by CRN, which “spotlights some of the channels’ best and brightest people who may not be as visible as some channel chiefs or CEOs, but are just as important to the partner community. Consider them the channel’s unsung heroes.”
Tristan Henning – Security enthusiast and ex-locksmith Tristan Henning is a security enthusiast and ex-locksmith with years of experience legally picking locks, cracking safes, and stealing cars. He believes in the power of the proliferation of security information and increased consumer awareness to drive innovation in security technology.
Melanie Hildebrandt – SVP, Corporate IT BRM (Business Relationship Management) – Sony Pictures Entertainment Melanie Hildebrandt is the Senior Vice President of Corporate IT Business Relationship Management at Sony Pictures Entertainment. Melanie is responsible for the Corporate IT program and application management across the areas of IT Service Management, Identity & Access Management, Security & Compliance, Global workforce experience and Enterprise Content Management. With over 15 years of leadership experience in the Media and Entertainment industry, Hildebrandt has led complex IT and business transformation initiatives, global enterprise implementations and innovative strategic programs by leveraging a combination of consulting and industry expertise. Prior to Media and Entertainment, Hildebrandt worked in the Oil and Gas industry, Utilities, and Telecommunications industry. Melanie is a strong advocate for inclusion and diversity. She currently serves as the Executive Sponsor for Women in Technology (WiT) that fosters leadership, encourages young women to explore tech careers, and empowers women through networking and community engagement. She also serves as a Board Member and Mentor for STEM Advantage, a program that helps women and under-served communities explore careers in STEM through scholarship, internship, and mentorship.
Luza Jaramillo – Senior Security Program Manager, Global EA Security Group Luza Jaramillo has more than 15 years of experience in IT Risk Management, Information Security and IT Auditing. Luza serves as Board Member for SOMOS EA, the Hispanic/Latinos Employee Resource Group (ERG) at EA and is also a Board Member of the Latinas in Computing community. She is the Co-founder and Conference General Advisor for LATINITY, an international conference for Latin American Women in Technology. Luza is an active member of SHPE (SV), ISACA (SV), IAPP, IEEE, Toastmasters International and Latinas in Tech. She holds a Master’s degree in Information Technology / Information Security from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering from EAFIT University (Colombia).
Farzan Karimi – Senior Manager, Red Team, at Electronic Arts (EA) Farzan Karimi is the Senior Manager for the EA Red Team. He previously led red team engagements at Microsoft Xbox and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Farzan regularly speaks at security conferences hosted by Microsoft, EA, Georgetown University, NOVA Hackers and Seattle University Prep. His subject matter expertise is in web application and network security.
Lee Ann Kline – Associate Director EY, Americas Talent Team / President and Founder STEM Advantage Lee Ann is a member of EY’s Learning & Development team. Previously, she was a Senior Manager in EY’s Program and Strategic Technology Advisory Services serving global financial services clients. Prior to EY, Lee Ann was a Senior Manager and Business Consulting Head, North America – Global Financial Markets for Detica (formerly m.a.partners). Previously, she was Assistant Vice President for Eligibility and Business Technology at MetLife, a Managing Director and senior strategist at Scient, and held various business and technology roles at IBM. Lee Ann has an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Juniata College. She is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP). In 2012 Lee Ann founded STEM Advantage with business, technology and talent leaders to mentor, prepare and inspire young women and underserved communities to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through a 360-degree program that includes internships, mentorships, scholarships, and professional development programs.

Carolyn Lear – Head of Trust & Assurance, ServiceMax
Carolyn Lear is an IT and Security Executive with broad experience implementing information security, risk, compliance systems, and strategies across multiple business sectors with global operations. Recognized as a thought leader in Information Security, her expertise includes building and managing enterprise-wide technical processes, performing detail security assessments, and aligning security best practices with business solutions to affect measurable improvements. 

Currently, Carolyn serves as Head of Trust and Assurance for ServiceMax, a leader and provider of SaaS field workforce management solutions. Carolyn brings more than 17 years of direct IT and security management experience to this role. 
Previously, Carolyn directed and delivered major security initiatives within the Financial, Cloud, IoT, and Insurance industries, and served as a guest panelist at the RSA Security Conference, BSides Los Angeles Security Conference, and Shecurity Security Conference. Carolyn also serves on CFP Committees for Bsides Las Vegas, Bsides San Francisco, and AppSec USA.  
Carolyn earned an MBA from Franklin University, a BS in Information Systems from DeVry University, and a BA in English from Muskingum University.  She has held the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification since 2006. 

George Liano – CISO, Deluxe Entertainment

George is the Global Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Deluxe Entertainment the world’s leading video creation to distribution company offering global, end-to-end services and technology. Through unmatched scale, technology and capabilities, Deluxe enables the worldwide market for professionally created video. With headquarters in Los Angeles and New York and operations in 38 key media markets worldwide, the company relies on the talents of more than 7,500 of the industry’s premier artists, experts, engineers and innovators.
As CISO, he is responsible for the strategic direction and alignment of the Information Security Program across all of Deluxe’s global facilities. Prior to Deluxe Entertainment, George was the Global CISO at iHeartMedia. George has a master’s degree in cyber security from Penn State University and is a PhD candidate in Digital Forensics at the University of Fairfax. George also holds a number of security certifications from ISC2, ISACA and SANS.

George Nam – Penetration Tester, Novacoast
George is a budding, young, passionate, cyber security enthusiast currently employed at Novacoast as a penetration tester. Before working on the red team side of things, he worked as a SOC Analyst. As a penetration tester, he works with a variety of organization in the health services and financial space conducting internal, external, wireless, and social engineering engagements.

Carole Schlocker – Queen of iSpace
Carole Schlocker has been with iSpace since it was founded and has been instrumental in building the company’s foundation base of clients. Prior to joining iSpace, Carole was Sr. Vice President of D.P. Specialists where she was one of the principal contributors in building the company into one of the premier IT Staffing and Solutions companies in S. California. Carole is currently on several Boards including Stem Advantage (www.stemadvantage.org), The  Disability Community Resource Center (dcrc.co), Association of IT Professionals (Los Angeles Chapter), and the Southland Technology Conference (SoTeC). She serves as the Chair for the Speaker Committees for SoTeC and AITP-LA. She is a past board member of Tech Serve Alliance and she was the Co-Director of the Los Angeles Chapter of Women in Technology where she helped to build the chapter from the ground up. Also, she is also a long-time member of the UCLA I.S. Associates and has served on their board. Carole holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from Temple University. She firmly believes that she is practicing social work daily in her work as an IT Recruiter.

Ken Selfridge – Information Security Officer, Kinecta Federal Credit Union
Ken has worked in cybersecurity and cyber risk management for 20 years. In his role as ISO, he is involved in the areas of audit management, systems architecture, governance and operations management and others. Prior to his roles in security, Ken has also been involved in operational risk management and investigations. He holds certifications with ISC2 (CISSP and ISSAP concentration), ISACA (CISM, CRISC) and SANS (GSTRT).

Peleus Uhley – Lead Security Strategist, Adobe
Peleus Uhley has been a member of the security community for over 20 years. He started as a developer at the online privacy company, Anonymizer, Inc., and went on to be a consultant for @stake and Symantec. His current role is as a Principal Scientist on Adobe’s security team where he assists in all aspects of the security program from proactive security to response. He recently released the open source project, “Marinus,” which helps large organizations track their Internet facing footprint.
Garrett Whelan – Professor of Cyber Security, Long Beach City College Garrett Whelan is a Professor of Cyber Security at Long Beach City College and has been teaching IT, Networking, and Security for over 10 years and he has been working with technology even longer. He holds a Masters in Computer Science from Michigan Technological University and holds certifications in Linux, Networking, Windows Administration, Security, and Penetration Testing. At LBCC he oversees the largest Cyber Security program in Southern California which was recently designated an NSA Center of Academic Excellence-2Y.

Ashley Wilson – Technical Director, Valimail
Ash Wilson’s career in technology started in 2000 with computer repair and upgrades. Ash is currently a Technical Director at Valimail, a role which involves research and development activities around email and IoT ecosystem security.
